| Summary A "Business Computer" architecture is now both desirable, and achievable, using a flexible framework based on three tier client server, to provide a better user interface to data. The main players are Citrix (for Winframe), Wyse (for Winterms), and a mostly unsuspecting Microsoft(for Windows NT). However, the systems integrators (e.g. ICL and Bull) have an opportunity to be the main drivers, assisted by such enlightened companies as Barron McCann and Network Designers. The dark horse at the moment is Psion, their next set of devices could well be pivotal in the mobile computing market. We could just continue as we have been, supplying increasingly costly and complex IT systems to our users, but I think it is time to change. Home:Index Previous: Replacement of the lap-top |
